WEEKEND INTENSIVE: Scarlet and vermillion: Three shades or red (Yarn and Fabric Dyeing)

85.00

The weekend intensive fabric or yarn dyeing class has a 6 person maximum.

Have you wanted to learn about how  the color red in Indian textiles was made? This organic safe process is an ancient art that has been passed down from generation to generation. In this course we will be creating two  mordant pastes. By using mordants and changing the chemical nature of the fabric surface, we will get different tone of red from one natural dye bath. We will be over dyeing with madder.  We will print with these pastes using woodblocks onto the raw fabric. We will practice designing scarves and using repeating motifs, by overlaying multiple woodblocks. If you will be using yarn, we will paint the wool with the pastes. This textile workshop will introduce you to traditional Indian textiles. Come away with a hand printed cotton scarf in three shades of red. I have sari and traditional woodblocks from my grandfather's ancient textile business.
